Lions vs. Bills Tops a Nine-Game Thursday: What to Watch

Nine games on Thursday, headlined at 8:15 in Orchard Park, featuring two of the highest scoring teams in recent memory at 1-0. There’s also a Dodgers matinee, two MLB games at 7:15, an ACC Conference opener with the night to itself, alongside a WNBA doubleheader in the final week of the regular season.

LAD Dodgers @ CIN Reds — 12:40 PM ET

The LA Dodgers (92-60) are in Cincinnati for an early afternoon game against the Cincinnati Reds (71-81). Los Angeles is finalizing playoff seeding with less than two remaining in the regular season, while the Reds are headed to Cancun early.

The Philadelphia Phillies (84-68) visit the New York Mets (69-83) in a division game that means very different things to each dugout. Philadelphia is running the NL East and lining up a rotation for October. New York has spent the second half sliding home for October.

The Kansas City Royals (67-85) head to Houston to face the Houston Astros (76-76) with the AL West still unsettled and not many games left to settle it. Houston can’t afford to give any ground, and Kansas City has been exactly the sort of low scoring, stubborn opponent that turns a must-win into a long night.

Thursday night college football belongs to the ACC, where the Syracuse Orange travel to face the Pittsburgh Panthers. Both programs are at the point in the schedule where conference results start deciding bowl position, and a standalone Thursday slot means this one has the sport to itself for three hours.

DET Lions @ BUF Bills — 8:15 PM ET

The main event is in Orchard Park, where the Detroit Lions (1-0) and the Buffalo Bills (1-0) meet in the best matchup of the young season. Josh Allen threw for 357 yards and 4 TD’s in Buffalo’s opener, and Detroit needed OT to get past New Orleans. Over the last 50 games, these two have scored more points per game than anyone else in the league.

LV Aces @ SEA Storm — 10:00 PM ET

The night closes in Seattle as the Las Vegas Aces visit the Seattle Storm with the WNBA regular season down to its final days. Western Conference seeding is still moving, and a late tip this close to the end of the calendar is nearly the last look either side gets before the bracket locks.
